Simon and Chris are fifth generation farmers from the Mead family who have been farming in the Chilterns since 1860.
The Mead's 150 year experience in sustainable agriculture means that only the highest quality rapeseed is used in producing Chiltern Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil.
With plenty going on, Simon and Chris employ family and local people to help bottle the oil. Both Simon and Chris are extremely proud that they can produce great tasting products from their family farm.
By being produced locally, "food miles" are kept to a minimum and you can see the crops growing in our fields. Bottles can be recycled and the meal left after extracting the oil is fed to our cattle. Nothing is wasted!
We have also recently established a wild flower meadow which we hope will support the wild life in our local area, helping to create habitats and increasing biodiversity.
The COLD-PRESSED Process
The seed is harvested in late July, dried, cleaned and stored in our purposed built grain store to keep it in perfect condition until pressing. Our cold pressing method is a traditional technique which gently squeezes the oil from the seeds. This gentle process ensures the full flavour and characteristic of the oil is preserved. Our oil is then filtered and bottled on the farm. Absolutely nothing is added during the process. The waste seed after pressing is fed to our Aberdeen Angus which is sold through our farm shop.
